Bayern Munich vs Lyon
Match Review
1. Bayern breaks the deadlock after surviving an early scare:
The French side looked promising in the early stages and was keen on applying pressure on their opponents. It looked like they were in the mood after surprising Man city with a 3-1 win and were trying to apply pressure. Lyon had an opportunity to score when Cornet slipped a through ball for Depay who ran between the center-backs towards the penalty area. The former Manchester United man moved right past Neuer and speared a shot wide of the near post. It would have been a massive boost for the French side if they had scored. Bayern narrowly escaped from that situation and began to attack. Goretzka was close to scoring when he and Lewandowski played a one-two and mishits his shot prompting Lopes to jump.
Lyon was relying on the counter and had another chance when Ekambi's first attempt was blocked by Davies. The Lyon man received the ball from Davies's initial block and shot only for the ball to hit the post. Flick's men opened the scoring as Kimmich chipped over Cornet to find Gnabry as the winger cut infield further and lashed a powerful strike towards the far post.
2. Bundesliga champions take control and score a second goal:
After scoring the first goal, the German outfit began to look to score more. Rudi Garcia's men had no reply to Bayern's attack and were trying to thwart every attempt. Bayern had another chance when Thiago chipped the into the defense from a set-piece and Muller failed to capitalize as he mishit the shot. The Ligue 1 side escaped again when their defensive header was poor and Gnabry took a chance and struck a low-shot prompting Lopes to save. The Bundesliga champions scored a second as Perisic played a low-cross to Lewandowski who failed to convert but the ball rebounded from Lopes to Gnabry. The former Arsenal man scored the second goal of the game.
The French side was left bamboozled despite having 2 early chances to score and they had no choice but to rely on a counter-attack. Lewandowski missed an easy attempt when Gnabry's curler was intended to go in but it flew past the Polish striker as he threw out his foot only to miss the opportunity. Considering Bayern's chances if they converted all of them, the scoreline would have been similar to their thumping against Barcelona.
3. Lyon gives a tough fight but ultimately succumb:
Rudi Garcia's men showed a fighting spirit in the second half and began to attack. The leading side preferred to sit back and defend rather than attacking. The French side had a chance to find the net when Marcelo jumped to head the ball. Unfortunately, there was less power and Neuer saved it comfortably. They again had another clear chance when Sule's clearance touched Dembele and Aouar ran free on the left squares it through Ekambi who only for Neuer to deny them.
The French side was resilient and as they were trying to find the back of the net. Despite their hard work, they weren't able to convert their chances. Bayern ultimately scored the 3rd goal when Kimmich delivered a brilliant pass from a set-piece and Lewandowski leaped above for the header and scored his 15th goal in the competition.
In the end, the Bavarians won the game 3-0. Lyon had chances in the first half when they intercepted Bayern's pass and countered with Depay sprinting towards the box moving right past Neuer and missed the chance as the ball went wide near the post. They had another chance when Ekambi's attempt was initially blocked by Davies but the Lyon man got the ball and hit the post. Bayern ultimately scored the opening goal when Gnabry lashed a beautiful goal from the left side to give his side the lead.
The former Arsenal man scored another when Perisic's ball meant for Lewandowski was left untouched and the rebound from Lopes was converted by the German. The French side showed resilience in the second half and had a chance when Marcelo's header was comfortably saved by Neuer. They missed another opportunity when Aouar slipped a ball for Ekambi which was saved by Neuer. Ultimately, the Bavarians scored from a set-piece thanks to Lewandowski as the Polish striker scored his 15th goal in this season's Champions League. With this win, the finals will be PSG Vs Bayern Munich.
